We recently had a very happy event in our family when our oldest son & his girlfriend got engaged. We planned a family dinner when Al's brother, Gary, was visiting so I wanted to make a banner (of course). I tossed around a few ideas and looked on Pinterest and came up with "She Said Yes". The closest thing to what I wanted was in white and not diy. I wanted something to put up and then give to them so didn't want to do it in paper. I was originally going to make it out of posterboard but then saw Foam Sheets. I bought them at Hobby Lobby but they have them at Michaels also. https://www.michaels.com/creatology-foam-sheet-12x18/M10597609.html

I got 1 sheet of red and 1 of white. I counted my letters to see how many red squares I'd need and decided on the size to fit. If you have more letters, you'll probably need another sheet. I used the white squares as a spacer so only needed two. I cut out a square out of cardboard to use as a template (4" diameter). I didn't trace onto the foam but instead just held the cardboard on while I cut with scissors. I used a cookie cutter in a heart shape to trace onto the red foam.

I'm not good at freehand so used alphabet stencils to trace onto the squares. I didn't know if paint would stick so decided to use a black marker to fill in with. Then I glued the hearts onto the white squares using the Aleene's Tacky Glue I had from the Valentine banner. I used small craft scissors to cut a small slit on either side of the top and then threaded the white yarn on to make the banner. It was easy to make and very inexpensive and could see making birthday banners the same way. You could cut out flowers or other shapes for the spacers, glue things on, plus you can make the banner flags any shape you want and in any color you can find.

I have a feeling there will be more wedding based crafts in my future but that's for Veronica & Jason to decide on. I'm just happy to be able to welcome such a warm, caring, & talented lady into our family.
